Stepping Over LeavesAnd so I tried to hold your letters
the way you used to hold my hand;
fingers spaced between torn edges and
around undotted i's.
Guiding me away
from those gentle autumn leaves that
I had loved to crunch
so very much.
But instead, I stepped against the sunspots
of every promise you had broken
trying just to pull some meaning from a sentence
ending with "goodbye".
And when my eyes began to slide over the words you had misspelled,
I closed your note
and tore it into nothing.
Nothing but a sad reminder that once again you had cracked
like those gentle autumn leaves
that I had loved
so very much.

N o v ai.
This distance between us
is devouring my lungs.
I'm left here gasping,
trying to suture back together
all the broken nights-
the cigarette burns in my bedsheets.

I'm tracing maps on my limbs,
and I'm painting black holes on my palms,
pressing them into letters
left on my nightstand
untouched and unread.

I keep telling myself
none of this is about you.
But I'm reaching for empty galaxies
as I try to remember what it felt like
to be one of a binary star.

Light-years away, and I'm here-
just another nova on your ceiling,
searching this vast universe for you.

FifteenThe blushing crows
Land on my clothes.
They tease my ears
With regrets and fears.

So I suppose
This is how my life goes.

Purples, blues, greens, yellows…
It's something that I never chose.

My eyes squeeze shut.
Another cut.

I mend and stitch
The holes and splits–
The ones I etched
And the ones you stretched.

Six hundred pounds of flesh
Resting upon my chest.
It's harder to catch my breath.
I hope this is not my death.

The worms withdraw
While the vultures claw
And begin to gnaw
At my limbs of straw

My skin bursts open
To release words unspoken.

Down the street
Tires scream
Headlights creep.
A young teen

A Gods DebtSutured together by artists,

devoured blasphemy-

hallowed out, & spit back up,

( you are afraid. )

Hooks longing for her ribcage embrace;

god-hands that can't seem to keep to themselves

grapple the gargoyle exterior of her deflowered frame.

( spread your legs. )

Red-inked and trembling,

prosetry masked as screams

knots into her anatomy.

WillowYour confessional arms are Willow trees,

draping lonely limbs around an empty ink-jar heart.

Scars worn down like henna tattoos.

A night witch scrawling her incantations on blue moons,

rolling her letters into sentences like a curse.

But, it is in these coffee eyes you have found a home.

Glitter on the pageThere is glitter on my fingertips,
As they stroke across the page,
Its all black and red to you,
But I see it glimmer and form.

She didn't have to make that joke,
As it cut into my trusting heart,
Black, yes, everything is black,
This is why I stay silent.
That was a secret she laughed about.
And you laughed too,
"I'm used to it."

He won't leave my dreams,
And I can never sleep.
Lets wash this blood red marker,
away in the sink.
This is why I am insomniac.
The bullet noise forever imprinted in my mind.
You just smile,
"Well, he's in a better place now."

She never had to use my life against me,

RepossessionYour words tore into my abdomen like vultures feeding on
the raw emotion their filthy wings stirred up from the dust.

My ribs cracked from the blow.

But, I think sometimes
of how these were the ribs
that should have chased you away from me,
quietly wondering how you managed to
slither past this cage of bone and flesh
to engrave your fingerprints into my marrow.

You were sweat & spice & scars-

Your eyes,
a thunderstorm of black and blue sex
jarring and devouring my insides,
shaped a faithless religion
through the cracks & broken shards
of my hollowed out womb.

(I want my insides back.)

Never trust ladies with scythes for smiles.i.
    these god-hands are barbwire's,
    snagging & scarring everything
    they touch.

    black tongue bleeding sweet ichor
    along the guarded walls
    of skeletal frames.

iii.
    'i want to taste heaven.
    it rests there,
    just beneath your bones.'

    he is a god dog
    made of scythes & scalpels,
    sewn together with weak thread.

With the chill of autumn
Soft falling tears it brings

It has learned no lessons
Nor built a thick stone wall
Lost within your beauty
It cannot help but call

I tried to hold it back
To tell it, 'let things be'
But flying to the stars
It said 'I will be free'

So then, I must tell you
That you're my morning sun
Basking in your heart light
I know the day's begun

Sat here at the keyboard
I search to find a trace...
Looking out the window
Imagining your face

This scarred and gentle heart
Once accepted 'lonely'
Now in the realms of sleep
It dwells upon you only

Everyday my little boat
Becomes filled with more and more water
My shoes are starting to get soaked
Like lambs unaware in the slaughter
There seems to be some kind of hole
Just big enough for water to get through
The hole isn't big by any means
But I don't know what to do
And everyday my little boat
Sinks deeper and deeper in the sea
I can't rewrite the script I wrote
I can't undo what is to be
The hole now becoming cracks
I tried to plug with paint and clay
With barrels full of whole grain sacks
But even still the boat decayed
And I just can't stop this water
From seeping in little by little
Every damn crack a

A Friend's False HopeI was still fast asleep when you knocked on my door.
The sun did not shine, still below Earth's dirt floor.

Your bright eyes were broken, soul pouring out,
which in honesty was nice to see after such a long drought.

I held you in the way I reserve only for these times.
Coaxing a response from you that I only know as mine.

I must admit, seeing you this way sparked in me false hope.
Finally you may push away the one that hurts you most.

But again you've taken my embrace and passed it back to her.
Leaving me a mix of tears on the shoulders of my shirt.

wreathing water-ink.
something like saliva
and coughed-up calligraphy.

up-turned cheekbones:
a smile
dancing to the surface:
a parody of laughter--
pallid and festering.

'you're a stranger, so why should i care.'

albatross hands.
dragged out;
crashing again.

'you'll vanish today,'

fingers chilled
to sticks of flesh and bone.

'not for the first time, i hear--or the last.'

face floating:
a harsh white sky.

spume and spray
spread out
like a too-taunt sheet.

surrender reaching:
frozen
and
languid.
longing

Love LiesLove lies.

And I was never in love.
I will deny it every time you ask.
I will say "No."
I will say "It didn't mean anything."
I will say "I'm fine."

Love lies
In your fingertips as you trace
The curves of my body,
Memorizing every turn.
And I was happy.

But suddenly I'm screaming and
Holding my head in my hands
Because I can't remember how to breathe.
And I'm pounding my dashboard because
I can't handle listening to this song anymore.
But I don't like the silence.

Rain Rain
Time dipped its frozen fingertips
in the waters of my bones,
wringing them dry of once purple skies
and smoothing away gentle grooves of nostalgia;
a topless render to my optimistic lens.

The sky began to fade like a freshly broken bruise:
Red, orange, yellow, green, purple, black, white.
a pallet of sour syllables that settled in my teeth
& festered deep within the crooked corners of my mouth,
occasional expressions pulsing through uncharted steam.

Bitterly dissolving like the powder of an hourglass
It drips like dew across my window &
nestles in the crooks, the kind of way a comma
hugs the corners of an 'n'.

rain, go away.

InsomniaA miniature moon floats sleepily
atop my open window;
a drifting continent sifting
over shivering tree tops.
Watery clouds explore along the
broken crest of atoms,
fingers rolling in the shadows
of its dimensions.
My skewed sight steadily begins to
repaint the scattered stars and
one by one like raindrops,
they burst across the sky
Breathing down in thoughtful shafts
upon the inside of my eyelids.
I'm thankful to be an insomniac.

Listening For InspirationTaste the breath of timid words
arising from my speech.
Dripping through my lips,
unfurling sails of poetry.

Catching wind of empty waves,
the words fall one by one.
They stoop the gentle break of day
and melt through river's run.

Curl beneath the shaded trees
and hide in hollowed rocks.
They topple through the spider's weave
and splash through bursting drops.

Sit behind the sunset
and before the rising skies,
dipping palms in Bluejay's songs
while frosting tearful eyes.

Complimenting purple streaks
across the orange noon.
Their silhouetting shadows casting
freckles for the moon.

Passing secret whispers
through the cu

reprisewords tossed gently
on a spinning river top
sink as stones to rise again
and kiss the break of day.

resurface, ripple, and repeat.

Soakeda rainbow
spectrum of
soft bruises
nestles in
the space
between her
fingertips
and heartbeat.
a silent reminder of
all the nights
she spent in
the solitude
of your
company.

He would often catch the coursers of a newly printed page or lock upon the wingspan of departing poetry. But once the years corroded and the pages crumbled, fantasizing was no longer enough Soon he found that these shallow fabrications had all the depth of a black and white page.
